Every woman needs to read this! It's so interesting to learn how the body works and how you can adjust your habits to get the best results. At 64 I delay my coffee at least an hour after waking and more often than not it's 2-3 hours. I have either plain water or water with electrolytes when I wake up, and started doing this many years ago after learning how beneficial it is to hydrate after sleep and before caffeine.

Timing matters !!!!

I am more curious now about how caffeine decreases insulin sensitivity.

Thanks Mindy, I am a tea drinker, does tea do the same?

I just got my first continuous glucometer last week. Thank you for putting this up in such a timely manner. I am going to check my data because you have my curiosity peaked.

I start my morning with hot water, it cleans out the overnight malaise for me! Then I switch to coffee. My fasting never allows food with coffee. I usually break it around 11:30….

I will delay the coffee as suggest to 60-90min! Thanks for the tip! :)

Yes, this is a great and accurate article. I notice for me, once I stopped having coffee first thing and waited until even 2-3 hours after I get up, I’m much more energized throughout the day. Now I don’t even use coffee daily, just a couple of days a week.

I so appreciated the read, Mindy! I cut out caffeinated coffee a couple of years ago because of headaches and some digestive issues, and it made such a significant difference for me, but it’s so helpful to understand why. About a year after that, I did add one cup of regular coffee in about 2 to 3 hours after I woke up and I’ve noticed that I don’t get shaky or jittery, no migraines or headaches from it, and like you mentioned, no crash! I am curious – I will occasionally wake up with a cup of decaf coffee, and I still noticed the same good results even though I have read that it has a little bit of caffeine still in it. I used the Thrive Market regenerate we grown organic decaf coffee that does not use chemicals to extract caffeine and wonder if maybe that has anything to do with them.

Great educational article . I don’t know why or how but I kinda knew instinctively that caffeine first thing in the morning was not the best way to start the day perhaps bc caffeine is addictive . I also start my mornings with lemon water then a green smoothie and or celery juice. I still LOVE my Coffee but I will typically delay it .
